300 Years of Beers
Shepherd Neame, founded in 1698, is believed to be Britain's oldest brewer — though recently uncovered information suggests it could be even older.
Still a family business, it is based in Faversham and its beers are widely available throughout the Canterbury, Herne Bay & Whitstable branch area, both in its large number of tied houses and in many freehouses.
Regular cask ales are Master Brew, Best, Spitfire and Bishop's Finger. These are complemented by a range of seasonal beers.
See shepherd-neame.co.uk for more information.
Kent Breweries
Since Hop Daemon moved from its site at Tyler Hill, near Canterbury, there are no breweries in the branch area.
Note that Whitstable Brewery, owned by the Whitstable Oyster Fishery Co, gives the Hotel Continental in Whitstable as its trading address, though the brewery itself is at Grafty Green near Maidstone (contact Maidstone branch for details of the CAMRA brewery liaison officer). The brewery's beers can be sampled in the town at the Whitstable Brewery Bar and the Hotel Continental.
Below is a list of all breweries and brewpubs currently operating in Kent.
