CAMPAIGN FOR REAL ALE

Canterbury, Herne Bay & Whitstable branch

How to get there

We are keen to see as many people as possible at branch meetings and social events, but please don't drink and drive.

Fortunately, the branch area is well served by buses and trains — please see our public transport page for more information.

To get to more remote locations, we often share a car. Please contact us for more information.

The Kent Beer Festival: a Brief History

Kent Beer Festival 17 to 19 July 2008

The first Kent Beer Festival was held in 1975 in Dane John Gardens, Canterbury. When it outgrew the site in 1987 it moved to Merton Farm, a few miles south of the city, where it has been held ever since.

It is one of the biggest and longest-running beer festivals in Britain, regularly featuring over 120 cask ales and ciders, including representatives from every Kent brewery.

The Champion Beer of Kent is decided annually at the KBF — the 2005 winner was Whitstable Brewery Oyster Stout.

Although the KBF takes place within the Canterbury, Herne Bay & Whitstable branch area, it is run independently. For more information, see the KBF's own website.

City of London Pubs

Date: Friday, 23 April 2010 to Friday, 23 April 2010

A social in London is planned for Friday 23rd April. This will take in several of the best pubs in the city, chosen for their good beer and character/ pub architecture. The reason that this date/ day has been chosen is because this is St George?s Day, which is a very good day to be in London, and because some of the best pubs in London are only open on weekdays. To give you a taster, our ?trail? is likely to include The Speaker in Westminster, The Edgar Wallace off The Strand, and The Old Mitre near Holborn Circus. These are all classic pubs with a good range of beers. More details in the New Year.
