Good Beer Guide 2008

Good Beer Guide 2008 cover picture

The Good Beer Guide is the longest running and best-selling guide to the best pubs for real ale in Britain.

Compiled by CAMRA's 82,000 dedicated volunteer members, it is the definitive source of information on where to find cask-conditioned real ale in tip-top condition. The Guide also contains a unique Breweries section, listing all the breweries — national, regional and micro — that produce cask beer, along with tasting notes compiled by CAMRA experts.

Mild

During May, CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, and a number of pubs and
breweries, will be celebrating the beer known as Mild with a variety of
different events to raise the awareness of this endangered beer style.

Mild is one of the most traditional beer styles, and whilst it is
enjoying a small revival in today's real ale market, it still only
accounts for an estimated 3-5% of all real ale sales. Mild has perhaps
been overshadowed in recent years by more fashionable beers such as
golden ales and premium bitters.

Mild beers tend not to be very strong and have an ABV in the 3% to 3.5%
range. They are usually dark in colour, due to the use of well-roasted
malts or barley, and are often less hopped than bitters, having a
chocolatey character with nutty burnt flavours.

The Canterbury, Herne Bay and Whitstable branch of CAMRA is organising a
pub crawl on 11th May to celebrate the Mild in May campaign.
